Editor’s Note
This week’s brief is led by access: a short booking window for Doi Luang Chiang Dao, the return of Andaman island routes and a public gaming event that separates visitor days from its industry programme. Elsewhere, a quieter Chiang Mai temple offers a living link to Doi Suthep, Chumphon’s migration season brings raptors over Khao Dinsor, and coastal events in Phuket and Pattaya add practical reasons to plan ahead. Bangkok closes the mix with aquascaping as a meeting point between art and ecology. Check weather, admission and live availability before making a special journey.

01 / NATURE AND ACCESS
Doi Luang Chiang Dao opens a short reservation window
Chiang Dao Wildlife Sanctuary is accepting online reservations for Doi Luang Chiang Dao nature-study treks and overnight stays until 16:00 on 30 October. The 2026–27 season runs from 16 November to 12 February, with bookings available only through the sanctuary’s official website. Confirmed visitors must attend a conservation orientation that includes Leave No Trace guidance before entering the protected area. The short window and controlled access are part of the mountain’s visitor-management system, so review the current rules and prepare the required information before beginning the reservation.

02 / SEASONAL TRAVEL
The Andaman season returns with electronic park tickets
The Similan Islands reopened on 15 October after their monsoon closure, while Maya Bay returned on 1 October. A practical change now matters across six marine parks, including Similan, Surin, Phi Phi, Phang Nga Bay and Ko Lanta: electronic tickets should be bought in advance, and visitors should have their passport ready. October and early November can still bring rain, high waves and boat cancellations, so build flexibility into island plans rather than treating the reopening dates as a guarantee of calm conditions.
03 / DIGITAL CULTURE
Gamescom Asia meets Thailand Game Show in Bangkok
The public entertainment area of gamescom asia x Thailand Game Show runs from 30 October to 1 November at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. Game demos, creators, cosplay and awards sit alongside a separate industry programme, so public visitors should buy the entertainment-area ticket rather than assume every session is open. A one-day pass costs THB 200 and a fast pass THB 300, including VAT. Children under 110 centimetres enter free with an adult; other children need a ticket. Official sales are cashless, and tickets are non-transferable, non-refundable and non-exchangeable.

04 / LIVING HERITAGE
Wat Chomphu keeps a quieter link to Doi Suthep
Inside Chiang Mai’s old-city moat, Wat Chomphu holds a bell-shaped Lanna chedi more than 600 years old, often described locally as a smaller twin of the one on Doi Suthep. Its history reflects an idea of access: people who could not manage the climb could still pay respects close to the city. The temple remains a living religious place rather than a substitute attraction. Visit quietly, dress for a working temple and treat the comparison as an invitation to understand shared history, not simply as a shortcut to a photograph.
05 / WILDLIFE AND CONSERVATION
Raptor migration season continues over Chumphon
Khao Dinsor viewpoint in Bang Son, Pathio District, remains a focus for migrating hawks, eagles and other birds of prey through 30 November. The Raptor Watch Festival frames the migration with education about flyways and behaviour, while the viewpoint keeps the experience rooted in Chumphon’s landscape. This is nature watching rather than a staged performance, so sightings and conditions vary. Bring suitable sun and rain protection, avoid disturbing birds or habitat, and confirm current access with Bang Son Municipality or the Tourism Authority of Thailand office in Chumphon before setting out.
06 / COASTAL COMMUNITY
Phuket Beach Life brings sport and a clean-up to Patong
Phuket Beach Life 2026 runs from 30 October to 1 November at Loma Park on Patong Beach. The second stop in the Amazing Multi-Racing Festival combines stand-up paddleboarding, local food, lifestyle products, creative workshops, cultural performances, live music and a beach clean-up. General entry is free. The official summary does not set out full daily timings or participation conditions for every water activity, so check the organiser’s latest programme before registering, travelling across the island or assuming equipment and places will be available on arrival.

07 / WELLNESS AND CITY LIFE
Pattaya prepares for a Halloween beach run
The 10th Pattaya International Bikini Beach Race takes place on 31 October at Pattaya Beach in front of Central Pattaya. The five-kilometre run is expected to draw more than 5,000 runners and supporters, followed by a glow party and beach concert. Registration is through the official ThaiRun page; verify the live fee and availability there rather than relying on reposted prices. Even for non-runners, the event affects the seafront: selected umbrella and sunbed zones will pause operations on race day, with normal service scheduled to resume on 1 November.

08 / ART AND ECOLOGY
Aquascaping turns living systems into a Bangkok exhibition
The Art of Thai Aquascape returns to Bangkok Art and Culture Centre from 3 to 15 November. Award-winning planted aquariums sit alongside workshops and activities including Aqua Music Therapy and Aqua Postcard, bringing design, horticulture and underwater ecology into the same room. The exhibition is in Hall L on the lower floor; the centre is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00 and closed on Mondays. The venue page does not state an admission price or workshop-booking terms, so confirm those details before planning around a particular session.
